If Venus eats the Sun, I will be too distracted by the pink toothbrush in the medicine cabinet to notice. I will be catching fruit flies with my toes, sobbing my way to a fever, or still peeling an orange from yesterday. I will be sitting on the kitchen counter in my rain boots and falling asleep on the couch to a film about brilliant autistic people. If the ocean catches fire, I will be ruining the moment. Buried beneath a steaming world, sweat staining the skin on my back, I will be wracking my body to pop off my shoulders like acne- Get them off! When there is finally something to see, I will photograph the people leaning out of their windows.
When Earth tells me her eyelids are heavy, I will finally be awake.
